Tell us something about manufacturing facilities, product range and technical efficiency at its command to incorporate latest developments into its product range on a continuous basis to stay ahead in the business?
Which are the new products you have launched in BC India 2018?
We, at Macons, have launched three new products in two product verticals. We are entering into multiutility equipment domain throughTruck Mounted Aerial Work Platforms. This is a new territory for us. It’s a joint venture betweenSOCAGE of Italyand Macons. Two of these models, manufactured in our plant, have been launched at bC India today.
MCP Bin 240, is a 240cum/hr batching plant which is going to be the biggest model in our range. These are the three products which have been launched here.
You have been Pioneer in batching plantsand now you’re diversifying into this lifting equipment So you are looking for any more.
Yes, we’ll be getting into more equipments in Concrete segment to further augment the range. Then there would be some associated products also, not exactly similar to existing products, but definitely associated products. We are getting into the concreting and infra projects’ domain in a much bigger way in2019.We are looking to double our top line through organic growth as the market grows plus foray into allied product domains.
What was the growth rate of Macons this year?
We grew at around twenty percent year-on-year which is more than the industry growth & the best part was our price realisation this year. We shall end the year with a wider network of dealers which augers well for the next fiscal year.
Please brief us about your export.
We have started exports to Nepal, SriLanka, Bhutan & Bangladesh. We participated in two exhibitions, one in Sri Lanka and the second one in Nepal recently. We are moving in to these markets strategically. We will be now entering the Middle East, Indonesia andfurther into some of the African & Latin American countries. We are working on various aspects of emission, safety& noise to comply with European norms/standards first and also on fit & finish to take the products to contemporary level. Rushing into exports all acrossis not our priority. We shall move in a planned manner with due diligence. We are targeting around 10 percent of the top line from exports.
Brief our readers about your dealership network.
We at Macons are clear about our next 5 years strategy. A robust dealership network shall be put in place in next 12 to 18 months time. Our dealers are going to be our long term partners in growth. They shall be our front end & the first interface with the customers. Our network partners are going to be the game changers in our go to market strategy. We have begun this process on a very good note & are progressing well.
What was the effect on Macons products because ofthe rise of dollars price?
The strength of Macons is the vision of the CMD, Mr Dharmesh Surelia, which is localization of the best global technologies & products. Our entire product range is fully localized except for a few components which are imported from our overseas partners. Value wise the proportion of these items is pretty low compared with our partners which gives us a cost advantage & saves us the vagaries of the INR/USD. Make in India shall continue to remain our core competence.
What is your forecast for the year 2019?
I believe if the same government continues, the momentum will continue. In case of change in government ,the momentum will slow down. Because the sentiment might change. But still it will not effect the industry in a big way. 2019 is going to be a gamble with politics & we at Macons will try & buffer it by operating in added product domains.
What are your goals for coming year 2019?
we are looking for twenty five percent growth over last year because we are adding products verticals and full new product range. Improved product range & dealership network should ensure more than 25% growth in the coming year. There are a few other marketing plans on the anvil to garner increased market share. For Macons, fiscal 2019-20 will surely be the best so far & in a big way at that.
Brief our readers about Egis India.
Egis is a global engineering company present in over 100 countries and a global turnover of over a billion euros. In India, we are present for nearly 25 years. Over the years, we have been privileged to be associated with some very important infrastructure projects in the country. Currently, we are working on 8 metro projects, 3 airports, 2 smart cities, port, AMRUT, PMAY, Chhatrapati Shivaji Memorial to name a few. We were a part of the recently completed Statue of Unity and Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EP1) as well. In India, we are offering end to end engineering, designing and project management solutions across infrastructure sectors. We are present in all the major cities in the country and have a team of around 2500 people.
What are the major issues faced by an EPC Companies in any infrastructure Projects?
We are not an EPC company but we work on Engineering & project management part of the business. In the last few years, infrastructure is seen as an integral part of economic growth and therefore a lot of bottlenecks in decision making that slowed down projects are being cleared. The government and the allied bodies are consciously working towards reducing delays by trying to eradicate the problems commonly faced earlier. So I don’t think there are any major issues faced by the sector now. Once the problems of Land Allocation and continuous/ steady funding are permanently tackled, I think the industry will grow faster and projects will have higher probability of completion on time.
Which are your landmark projects? Brief us with the challenges faced in executing those projects?
For me, every project we work on is a landmark project. However, if I need to analyze projects in terms of complexity and the challenges presented, I would like to list a few which have been extremely challenging and yet highly engaging to work on…
Chhatrapati Shivaji Memorial is one of the very unique projects we are working on. We are creating an island in the middle of the Arabian Sea and on top of it we are building the statue and a memorial. This is supposedly will be the tallest statue in the world on completion.
The second project that comes to my mind is the Mumbai Metroline 3. Here most of the metro is underground and the ground is marshy. It is extremely challenging for us to develop this without damaging the existing structures overhead.
The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana that we are working on for Madhya Pradesh again presents a set of very unique challenges – wherein we are working on geotagging locations to working out best ways to get people loans. The scope of work is extremely wide and therefore extremely important for us to coordinate and meet timelines
We are working on the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) where we are working on strengthening around 1000 dams in the country.
However, all our projects which comprise of 8 metro rail, 3 airports, 2 smart cities, plethora of roads and highway projects all have very unique and interesting stories which makes our role as project management and consultants extremely interesting and rewarding.
What is your expectation from the Government?
The government needs to offer 4S for the success of projects. First S is Stability. The government needs to ensure that the projects are given a stable environment for decision making and funds. The second S is Simplify. The processes and systems at the government’s end needs to be simplified and streamlined to minimize the process. The third S is Sustainability. This is to ensure that the decision making takes into consideration the sustainability factor. The projects need to be viable for a long duration of time by taking into consideration the long term view rather than quick fix. And last but not the least is Support. The government needs to see us as their partner in progress so that we can benefit from the strength of each other and together arrive at solutions which can be path breaking and cost effective.
Role of your company in support of the “Green Revolution?
Egis is a green building specialist. Our green building projects include:
Airports (Lucknow, Pune, Trichy), Urban Development (Global City Haryana, Raghunath Industrial Park), Railway Stations (Surat MMTH Gujarat, Udhana Railway Station, DMRC Phase 4) and Green Building (ASFB3, ASFB1, Thapar University Library Building, Introcean Commercial Interiors)
So as you can see, we are consciously trying to introduce the concept of maximum utilization of resources through optimal designs in almost every sector that we are working on. I am confident that over a period of time, we would be contributing quite substantially towards the green revolution and developing sustainable projects.
Which are the new products you have launched in the BC India 2018?
We have a lot of new launches in BC India 2018. In terms of whole machine there are three new products, one is soil compactor CASE 1110EX. It is a110 HP air conditioned cab more safe and comfortablefor the operators. This is the first of its kind in the Indian market. The Second product is Case 752 EX it is a tandem compactor with same carry forward DNA of CASE 752 but with upgraded technology changes like sliding & rotating seat, tilted steering , having two levers, full visibility and sprinklers on both the drums. So significantly more improved technology. The third machine we have launched is CASE 851 EX. We called it “THE KING”. It is a centre pivot version against the side shift product existing for last many years. The centre pivot sitting machine give the operators the flexibility to stabilized the machine and hold the machine steady even on the uneven grounds. We have introduce called “CELT” means the Case extended life tracks on the dozer which give double the life to the chain tracks. In loader backhoe we have made a lot of positive changes hydraulic absorbers and even introduce the advanced telematics technology in association with Bosch. In 86 HP loader backhoe magnum we introduce a 15 foot backhoe is one feet longer then what is available in the market right now. It has bigger pump for more flow and speed which means higher productivity for the customer.
Tell something about newly launched eagle eye advanced version Telematics solution.
It is giving far more than a mechanical engine usually can offer. Usually telematics start making more and more sense as you move on electronic engines because you have a lot of flexibility of taking more data, do more analysis. With eagle eye we are pushing the boundaries of mechanical engines. We are taking some basic inputs from the engines which can be monitored easily and provide some alerts indicators to the customers. Other then this preventive alert system it gives whole lot if new user interface in terms of the software. We have added Geo-framing, it helps to keep a close watch on movement of machines by restricting the boundaries.
How was the year 2018 for Case construction?
It was extremely good, the industry was very supportive. The industry was unpredictablyhigh and we feel this was the best ever year for construction sector in India. The growth have been in all segment, theconsolidatedorOverall we have grown over more than 30% and we are kindly happy, more happy.
Which product you think is your best one?
In current display of BC India 2018, I feel CASE 752 EX –the new machine a tandem compactor. We have been the market leader in Tandem compactor for more then 3 decades and usually to continue being a leader becomes difficult, because for a competitors it is easy to start copying the leaders but as a leader it becomes his responsibility of give something new where nothing like that existed in the past . CASE 752EX in terms of technology, design is far superior then what else is available in the market.
What about your training programs for operators?
We are dealing with skilled manpower or skilling the manpower in multi combo approach. First approach is to train the operator for that we have operator training schoolwhich bring in unemployed youth we give them training on machines and make them ready for becoming operator or an entrepreneurby getting to understand the machines and its application in a better way. The second approach is for heavy line machines like Graders and dozers, which is more technological, more sophisticated and needs specialized operator, there we are giving trained operators to the customers and in this way we are trying to bridge the skill gap. The skilled operators which we give become a Master trainers and go and give training to all other operators on the sites. This conceptof train- the- trainer, the operators are made available through placement agency and are directly employed by us. Third kind of approach is in design change in the machines. Design change is a way that it becomes easy for even a semi skilled operator to run the machine. Now the machine are designed in such a way that a semi skilled operator caneasily make out the coordinates of the machine.
Which are countries where you export from India?
We are exporting whole goods or fully built machines. Those countries we can export only which has emission norm similar to India or lesser to India. So these are basically Africa , middle East, South East Asia, Russia, Central Asian Countries and CIS Countries. In terms of components and aggregateswe are selling to our other manufacturing plant globally in different location all over the world.
What is your growth Percentage of export ?
Export is nearly 20%. But this year growth in domestic marketwas far higher because India is really booming so percentage in growth perspective export is lesserin this year.
what is your growth plan 2019?
For 2019 we want to continue the same momentum of 2018. But from industry growth prospective we do not see that the growth percent will continue as 2018. Even the base has also increase so much and year– on– year increasing. The year 2018 is with the larger base will be difficult to record 30-40% growth over it. Also it is the year of election hence 2 month will go into election and we are left with 10 monthsonly to actually work on and achieve. The industry growth we expect to be flattish but in termsof our number we are targeting aggressively. This means we need to increase our market share to achieve our target, we will do it.
Q : Which are the new products you have launched in the BC India 2018?
Ans: we have launched three main products in BC India 2018 and the most important one product is the tower plant. As you are aware that in cities, space is of biggest problem and is at a very large premium and major cost of a plant goes into land cost. So if you put a conventional plant in city environment, it requires anything above 5000 sqft. just for the plant. We have solved this problem and have developed a small footing black vertical tower plan, which requires only a space of five hundred square feet. So this is a huge saving in terms of land and cost. Second advantage of our tower plant is , it works under dust free in condition like all the aggregate transfer the aggregate lifting everything is an in closed environment. So there is no dust pollution. If you know the metro cities they have completely banned the use of plants inside the city. Hence we have developed this plant especially for city limits. So we have taking care of both aspects the cost of land space and dust free saving environment. Another product we have launched is a compact skip plant which has got a very small footprint of 9 metre X 2 metre and it can be used for transit mixture filling. Major advantage of that plant is that it does not require a ramp. The loading height of the aggregate hopper is just three meter. So any normal loader can load the aggregate as it don’t require a ramp and also don’t require a foundation. So this is another advantage. The third product we have introduced is fully mobile belt type plant. Anyone can transport it from one location to another location saving lots of time and start production without the foundation. And it is again a very compact footprint, just 12 X 2 meter. So it is a fully mobile plant which can be utilized at various sites, various editions and always ready to use.
Q: How is the response of BC India 2018?
Ans: It’s good, We have launched three new equipments and display our existing products too. Which is definitely attracting customers and they have welcoming this new technology. If you look at market, there may be a little down sentiment because of the election result of Rajasthan Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. But then overall we got good response. Our customers are also excited about new technology. Hence good amount of footfalls in exhibition for last three days.
Q: What have been your growth for this current year?
Ans: we have been achieving around 45% year on year growth for last nine years and this year also we expected good growth we are despite off the cash crunch in the market we have been able to sell good numbers of machines because of we could realign our product range in time because we knew that it is election year so the demand for bigger batching plant will reduce. So in time we compensated and added new compact plants. Our sale figure has not gone down. It has gone up and we expect a good growth in this year &still three months are left we are keeping are finger crossed and the coming year will be reasonably good because whoever comes in power the growth will continue. The only thing we have to realign our project portfolio according to the market needs.
Q: Are you looking for any diversification?
Ans: We are not looking for any diversification because we strongly believe that we are concrete experts and we should remain concrete expert. Unlike other people who are spreading their wings in all directions and are not able to satisfy any one segment, rather we would like to stick to concrete segment only and we are happy and satisfied with the growth what we have a been achieving from last few years. So we would continue and keeping our identity as a specialist in concrete solutions.
Q: Are you planning for some new technology?
Ans: We have been introducing path breaking technology every year and this year also we have developed new technology. We are adding a lot of new feature in our contract equipment. We will continue doing so and continue being the technology driver of the concrete equipments in India and let other companies follows our trend set up by our company.
Q: What is your export sales percentage and in which countries?
Ans: We are doing a good amount of export which is close to around to 12% of our domestic market and we are exporting at the moment around twenty five different countries and spreading from far east to southeast Asia. We are even exporting to middle east and in African market we are slowly- slowly increasing our command area and being a Japanese company we would like to utilize Indian manufacturing base as a global supply hub. So definitely our focus on export is increasing day by day.
Q: Any plan to set-up new manufacturing unit.
Ans: At this moment we have a mother plant in Baroda. This year we are not thinking of any new plant , but certainly in coming year we will be spreading our wings to north India. But this year we would like to focus on the existing planning and increasing the capacity and existing plant.
Q: Brief our readers about your network?
Ans: We have our own network of sales people. We have regional offices, zonal offices and we have resident sales offices. We would like to continue in the same direction. Even though we have a few dealers also, but we certainly believe in our sales team and and setting up a service network all over the country.
Q: Talk about after sales service?
Ans: After sales service is the backbone of our company and we started with service engineer first and then we added sales engineer. Still we believe that our service back up will give us more enroll in the customers mind and our focus is on service and we are developing service friendly technologies like our a remote diagnostic feature in our plants, where from our headquarter we can set right the machine at customers site without even service engineer visiting the customers through VPN or internet. We are further improving this day by day and developing new technologies.
Q: Are you providing training to your customers?
Ans: we are providing training programmes to customers and service to people at our factory. We have a state-of-art training center where we simulate the machine , we give them a hand on training over machinery and we also certify them. So operator is certified by KYB- Conmat .Of course his efficiency in operating the machine will increase.
Q: What is your forecast for the year 2019-2020 ?
Ans: As I said earlier irrespective of election year or the market situation, we will continue to grow. The only thing we should know what is the market needs how to handle that requirement. So if as we already delivered focus from bigger plant is shifting towards compact and a smaller plant and it has given good results and we believe that it will continue in near future irrespective of the outcome of the election or any other problems.
